Stress on the job is one of biggest issues facing adults in America (that’s no secret). According to Stress.org, “25% [of workers] view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives.” Since April is National Stress Awareness Month, there’s no better time to reflect on your workplace stress. Each job has its own stresses and problems to face so it’s hard to compare how stressful one job is compared to another – but what we can do, is figure out how to deal with that stress.

  • One of the first things you should do is to acknowledge that you’re stressed. For some people, they will just “work” through the stress, meaning they just keep working until they feel like the stress is gone. Don’t do this! This isn’t acknowledging the issue. Instead of dealing with your stress, you’re looking past it and by continuing to work with the stress you’re giving into it.
  • Figure out the source of your stress. Here are some common workplace worries:
    1. Slow business
    2. You’re not earning enough money
    3. Work overload
    4. You don’t like your job
    5. You don’t feel important
    6. It’s not interesting
    7. You don’t have any (or very many) workplace relationships
  • Think of ways to make the stressful issue dissolve. For example, if you are overloaded with problems to deal with at your job, consider delegating some of the workload. If you don’t have enough business coming through the door, think of creative ways to engage customers or ask for an outside opinion.
  • Know that you’re not alone. We can guarantee that every single person you work with has some sort of workplace stress plaguing them. Get together! Confide in your co-workers what is worrying you, or if you feel that you should talk to someone outside of the workplace, talk to your spouse, or best friend, or sibling.
  • Develop a response to stress. When you know you have a stressful week of work ahead of you, plan out fun things to do after work to look forward to. Go out to lunch with friends to break up the day and get out of the workplace for a little bit. Work out on the days you are extremely stressed – being active can be great for your mental and physical health. Get into a new hobby.
  • Have pre-stress relievers! Eating healthy and minimizing your alcohol intake can greatly improve your mood and ability to handle stress. Also, make sure you are getting good sleep! Each person has a different amount of sleep that they need to function happily on – find yours!

While people deal with stress differently, it’s important to realize that you handle it differently than someone else. Even though your co-workers seem to be calm and peaceful at work, that doesn’t mean they don’t also face stressful situations. They may have just found a stress reliever that works for them! We care about your health, and sometimes dealing with stress can mean delegating some tasks to others so you aren’t overburdened at work. If one of those tasks is delegating away marketing, Gamble Marketing Group is here for you!
